About SLIC
The Science Learning and Instructional Center (SLIC) was established in the fall of 2007 with the idea that peer support is one of the most effective means for improving student learning. Students are encouraged to come to SLIC to work with each other, with a peer coach, or a science teacher. Housed in Cutler House, room 3104, SLIC shares space with Project Aquarius, thus the location is often referred to as the "fish bowl."
SLIC Staff
SLIC is staffed mainly by junior and senior students in good standing who have an interest in science and who want to serve as peer coaches to help other students learn how to be better students while learning science. We encourage students who want or need support in learning science to come to SLIC on a regular basis, such as the same block each week, to develop a relationship with a peer coach. Science teachers are available some blocks, as well. Our goal is to have at least one staff member available in every on of the 28 regular blocks (A1 — G4) each week; the SLIC
schedule lists block coverage for the current semester.
SLIC Resources
In addition to our talented and friendly staff, SLIC has a book shelves with reference materials including at least one copy of most textbooks that are in use for current science courses. Various science oriented magazines and periodicals are also available. Also available are four network computers and a network printer.
Science Assistant Information
This form is placed here just because I needed a fast place to make it available to students who are signed up as, or have spoken with a teacher and received a recommendation to become, a science assistant.
- If you fit this description, please make sure you complete this form.
- If you do not fit this description, but are interested in becoming a science assistant, speak with your science teacher from last year and this year, speak to me (Crosby), and speak with your guidance councellor before filling in this form.
- PLEASE — answer all questions on the form.
If you find a "broken" link that you think should be working, please send email to Alan Crosby with the details.
